Hans Dietrich von Grawert (born July 29, 1822 in Dresden , † December 10, 1889 in Bornstedt ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Dietrich was the son of the Prussian captain Albert von Grawert (1796–1826) and his wife Auguste Henriette, née von Witzleben (1798–1843).

Military career

Grawert visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . On August 9, 1840, he was transferred to the Emperor Alexander Grenadier Regiment of the Prussian Army as Portepeefähnrich and advanced to Second Lieutenant in mid-December 1840 . As such, Grawert was in command of the Guards Artillery Brigade from March 1847 to the end of February 1848 . Following this, he took part in the suppression of the barricade uprising in Berlin and in the battle near Schleswig during the campaign in Denmark . In June 1852 Grawert was promoted to Prime Lieutenant , was in command of the Guard Dragoons Regiment from November 1854 to October 1855 and became a captain on February 9, 1856. On March 12, 1859, he was appointed company commander . As a company commander, Grawert was assigned to the 1st Combined Grenadier Regiment on June 7, 1860, from which the 3rd Guards Grenadier Regiment emerged shortly afterwards . Grawert worked here as a company commander until June 24, 1864 and was promoted to major in the 4th Guards Regiment on foot . With this association he took part in the 1864 war against Denmark in the bombardment of Fredericia and the battles at Heisekro and Horsens .

On April 4, 1866, Grawert became the commander of the 1st battalion that he led the campaign in southern Germany during the German War of 1866. As a lieutenant colonel from June 6, 1869, he was assigned to the replacement business in the district of the 41st Infantry Brigade in Mainz . With the beginning of the war against France , Grawert was initially appointed commander of the 2nd Guards Landwehr Regiment for the duration of the mobile relationship and was promoted to colonel on July 26, 1870 . He led his regiment in the sieges of Strasbourg and Paris and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class. During the siege of the French capital, on November 21, 1870, he was assigned to lead the 2nd Hessian Infantry Regiment No. 82 . After the preliminary peace at Versailles , Grawert received his appointment as regimental commander on March 29, 1871. In the same capacity, he worked from January 1, 1872 to October 14, 1874 in the 1st Grand Ducal Hessian Infantry (Life Guard) Regiment No. 115 in Darmstadt . Grawert married on February 17, 1848 in Berlin with Natalie von Müffling (1824–1863), daughter of the later general of the infantry Wilhelm von Müffling called Weiss . Several children emerged from the marriage, including the Prussian Major General Kurt von Grawert (1849–1921) and the Prussian Lieutenant Colonel Hans von Grawert (1851–1901). After the death of his first wife, Grawert married Countess Henriette von Blumenthal (1839–1889) in Potsdam on May 17, 1866 . From this marriage the sons Werner (1867–1918) and Gideon (1869–1941) and the daughters Nataly (1870–1939), Marie (1873–1938) and Margarete (1879–1945) emerged. In his third marriage, he was married to Alice von Witzleben (1857–1928) since October 20, 1887.
