action

Rahul is a dancer and the director of a successful dance group. He and Nisha are best friends, but she is secretly in love with him. After a successful tour, Rahul immediately announces the next one and names her "Maya", after the girl of his dreams.

Rahul does not believe in love or marriage, but he is still in love with "Maya", a girl he only knows from his imagination. One day, Nisha injures her foot and won't be able to train for the new show, so Rahul looks for a replacement - and finds Pooja, a gentle young woman. Pooja does believe in marriage and love - and it is her principle to only marry her soul mate.

Since Pooja's parents have died, she grows up with her uncle, her aunt and their son Ajay. Ajay is in love with Pooja, but she only shows him friendship. However, she becomes engaged to him, believing that he might be her soul mate.

Pooja begins to train with the troop and when Nisha is released from the hospital, she realizes that Rahul has fallen in love with Pooja, so she leaves the troop and goes to London.

Ajay has spent some time outside India and is now returning to marry Pooja. When Rahul learns of the wedding, he is devastated. Pooja tries to tell Ajay that she is in love with Rahul and sends him a cassette with the recorded explanation, but she fails to mail it, because Ajay's mother firmly expects her son to marry Pooja and she doesn't dare to break her heart. Nisha returns from London to see the show and complains that “Maya” has a bad ending. Rahul, however, who is very bitter about Pooja's marriage, refuses to change the ending. “Maya” is Pooja's and Rahul's story as Rahul sees it: He and Pooja met, fell in love and yet will not get together.

The show is a huge hit and in the final scene Rahul's feelings for Pooja awaken and he asks her in front of the entire stadium audience if she ever loved him. She denies this, but suddenly the tape recording that Pooja Ajay sent sounds. Pooja hears her own declaration of love for Rahul. Ajay breaks the engagement and convinces Pooja to tell Rahul about her feelings. She does that in front of the entire audience and the relationship between the two is saved.
