Dimitrios Papadopoulos also Dimitris Papadopoulos ( Greek Δημήτρης Παπαδόπουλος , born September 20, 1981 in Gagarin , Uzbek SSR ) is a Greek football player .

After Papadopulos lived in Uzbekistan until he was eleven , he returned to his parents' homeland in 1992. His first stop was the then third division Akratitos Ano Liosia , where he played for the first team for the first time at the age of 17.

At 19, Papadopoulos moved to Burnley FC in England for the club's record transfer fee of € 700,000 . After his brief stint on the British Isles, he returned to Athens in the summer of 2003 and signed a professional contract with Panathinaikos Athens . In the very first year the striker achieved a regular place and, thanks to his 17 goals, led his team to the Greek championship and cup success in 2004. In the summer of the same year he won the European championship with the Greek national team and was subsequently selected for the Olympic Games appointed in Athens.
