The Colcabamba district is located in the Aymaraes province in the Apurímac region in central southern Peru . The district has an area of ​​91.8 km². The 2017 census counted 729 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 668, in 2007 786. The district administration is located in the 3360  m high village of Colcabamba with 501 inhabitants (as of 2017). Colcabamba is located 32 km north of the provincial capital Chalhuanca .

Geographical location

The Colcabamba district is located in the Andean highlands in the north-west of the Aymaraes province. The Río Llehua crosses the district in a south-easterly direction and flows into the Río Chalhuanca . This flows along the southeastern district border to the northeast.

The Colcabamba district is bordered by the Toraya district to the west, the Tumay Huaraca , Andahuaylas and José María Arguedas districts to the northwest (all three in the Andahuaylas province ), the Lucre district to the north, the Tintay district to the northeast and the southeast the districts of Chapimarca and Ihuayllo .
