The Salas District is located in the province of Lambayeque the Lambayeque region in northwest Peru . The district founded on October 11, 1909 has an area of ​​991.8 km². At the 2017 census, there were 12,595 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 13,368, in 2007 it was 12,998. The district administration is located in the 190  m high small town of Salas with 3008 inhabitants (as of 2017). The city of Salas is located about 60 km north-northeast of the regional capital Chiclayo .

Geographical location

The Salas district extends over the mountainous east of the Lambayeque province. The area on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera is drained to the west. In the north of the district is the 8467 hectare Área de conservacíon regional Bosque Moyán-Palacio protected area.

The Salas district borders in the southwest on the Jayanca district , in the west on the Motupe and Chóchope districts , in the northwest on the Olmos district , in the north on the Huarmaca district ( Huancabamba province ), in the northeast on the Pomahuaca district ( Jaén province ) and in the East to the districts of Kañaris and Incahuasi (both in the province of Ferreñafe ).
