Donald Edwards (* around 1965 ) is an American jazz musician ( drums , composition ) of modern jazz .

Donald Edwards began working as a professional musician in 1987; In 1990 the first recordings were made in Texas with Tom Morrell And The Timewarp Tophands. In the following years, initially mostly in the New Orleans music scene, later active in New York, Edwards played with Freddie Hubbard , Tom Harrell , Donald Harrison , Jesse Davis , Kurt Elling , Ralph Bowen , Branford Marsalis , Ellis Marsalis , Henry Butler , Orrin Evans , Joey Calderazzo , Wynton Marsalis , the Mingus Big Band , Mingus Daynasty & Orchestra , Charlie Hunter , Russell Malone , Dave Holland , Conrad Herwig , Alvin Batiste , Alex Sipiagin , Seamus Blake , Marcus Printup , Joe Locke , George Colligan , Mark Whitfield , Diane Schuur, and Misha Tsiganov . In 1994 he won the Louisiana Arts Ambassador's Award in the Composition category,

Edwards has released four albums under his own name so far, In the Vernacular ”(1994), Ducktones (Zoot-T), Evolution of an Influenced Mind ( Criss Cross Jazz , 2014) and Prelude to Real Life (Criss Cross, 2016). In the field of jazz he was involved in 79 recording sessions between 1990 and 2015. Edwards is also currently a member of the Abraham Burton Quartet.
