The Protestant village church Zaschendorf is a half-timbered church from the 17th century in the Zaschendorf district of Kuhlen-Wendorf in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It belongs to the parish of Brüel in the Sternberg church region in the Wismar provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany (Northern Church) .

history

In a fragment of the tithe register of the diocese of Schwerin , the village was in 1320 Saszkendorp sunt III mansi first mentioned. In 1344 it was called Tzatkendorp . On February 13, 1344, Count Nikolaus von Schwerin , nicknamed Pyst , donated the property and highest court in the villages of Zaschendorf to the knight Raven von Barnekow as a sovereign counselor for his loyal service, which he had rendered him especially during the time of his imprisonment, Parsow, Muggelwitz and Zietlitz and the hunt in the Zietlitzer wood. Zaschendorf belonged to the von Barnekow family for almost 120 years , until they died out in Mecklenburg around 1600 . In the centuries to come, the ownership and patronage relationships in Zaschendorf changed constantly. In 1462 Martin von Barner was in Zaschendorf, then in 1569 Johann von Barner and from 1646 the village and estate were pledged to Heinrich von Taden for six years . In 1653 Johann Diesteler (Diestelow) leased the estate, but in 1688 ownership passed to Gottlieb von Hagen . In 1697, Lieutenant Colonel Rudolf Dietrich Degingk was pledge holder of Zaschendorf. In 1759, Captain Christian Ludwig von Bülow married Degingk's heir and Zaschendorf remained in her possession until 1818. The Bülow heirs followed in 1819 by Karl Emanuel Lübbe. In 1851, Zaschendorf came to the von Langermann-Erlenkamp family through the Baroness von Langermann , née Lübbe. From 1921 to 1938, District Administrator Friedrich Freiherr von Langermann-Erlenkamp was in Zaschendorf, then District Administrator Klaus von Bredow and until the expropriation in 1945 Gudrun von Bredow, a born baroness von Langermann-Erlenkamp, owned Zaschendorf.

Building history

In the center of the village north of the Warnow is the small village church in Zaschendorf. It was as a hall church from half-timbered well built with three-sided choir final end of the 17th century.

Since the church was hardly used and the state of construction was constantly deteriorating, the works of art and inventory were relocated as a precaution after 1970. Parts of the gallery with the paintings came into the depot of the Church Art Service in Rostock. The pulpit and the altar stood in the Holy Spirit Church in Wismar .

In August 1991 the nave collapsed due to lack of use for the past three decades and permitted decay, only the tower structure remained. In the following years the half-timbered walls were professionally removed. The carpentry work was done with funds and support from the German Foundation for Monument Protection . After the rebuilding of the demolished half-timbered church and an extensive internal reconstruction, the church was inaugurated again in 1993. But just ten years later, restorers confirmed that the new ceiling boards were infected with wood pests . In July 2019, 13 construction defects were found on the church roof and inside due to improper execution.

Exterior

At the western end of the roof ridge sits a small square roof turret with sound hatches. There is also a cross on the slightly sloped roof, which is covered with wooden shingles . According to the inventory from 1811 there were two small bells in the roof turret, the larger of which was cast in 1708. The bells are no longer there.

The small square and leaded lattice windows sit fairly high, while the simple wooden door as the entrance on the south side has a very low head height. The hipped roof has been re-covered with plain tiles

Interior

The interior of the half-timbered church was provided with a flat and painted wooden beam ceiling after the renovation, which took place until 1993. It is painted with rich acanthus leaves and medallion portraits of Christ, the apostles and angels.

The altar shrine , a triptych , from around 1500 is older than the church building. The essay, which was restored between 1964 and 1967, probably comes from the chapel of the wool weavers' guild south of the tower of the Georgenkirche in Wismar . Presumably it was brought to the village church after the introduction of the Reformation . In the central shrine it shows the Annunciation between eight saints, one of which is missing. Paintings on the wings, the inactive wings and the predella , preserved in fragments, show depictions of the legend of St. Severus , the childhood of Mary and Christ as the Man of Sorrows between the four great Latin Fathers of the Church . Only the upper third of the painting has survived. The heavily damaged paintings on the back of the wings and the inactive wings illustrate the legend of St. Severus with eight scenic depictions . The inscriptions to the pictures were written in Low German .

A simple pulpit , probably from the middle of the 17th century, shows pictures of the four evangelists along with inscriptions in Low German in the fillings of the polygonal basket. The gallery , like the stalls, comes from the time it was built and shows 16 single images of the same size with depictions of Christ, John the Baptist , the apostles and Moses.

Among the inventory items are two wrought-iron altar candlesticks, probably made by village craftsmen, in whose design the motif of the double-headed imperial eagle was used.

Pastors

Names and years indicate the verifiable mention as pastor.

The Zaschendorfer church was connected with the church in Zittow since the Middle Ages . At times there were also connections to the churches in Müsselmow and Holzendorf . As a result of the legacy of Anna von Barner, the Müsselmower pastor is supposed to give four sermons a year in the church in Zaschendorf around 1677. When the Müsselmow pastor Diederich Schröder died, his successor Balthasar Gerstenberger no longer came to Müsselmow and Zaschendorf because he was repeatedly plundered by bandits on the way. The patronage family von Barner from Zaschendorf then tried to convince pastors from the Retgendorf church for the four annual sermons . Nothing is known about the further development. Until 1939 the Zaschendorfer church was looked after from Zittow. Pastor Rupert Günther Schröder from Bruel has been responsible for the church since 2018.
