Dorn is a farm in the west of Wuppertal - Ronsdorf in the residential area Ronsdorf-Mitte / Nord .

Location and description

It borders directly on chapels and Freudenberg , which belong to the districts of Barmen and Elberfeld . The location, consisting of only a few houses, is located southwest of the Lichtscheids at an altitude of about 284  m above sea level. NHN . The Dornbach, one of the two source tributaries of the Gelpe, runs through Dorn .

The Schüttenberg , on which there are three large private properties, rises south of Dorn . The entire area around Dorns, with the exception of the property, is located in the nature reserve and fauna-flora-habitat of the Gelpe- and Saalbachtal river system .

In the vicinity of the village, which is located in the "entrance area" of the historic Gelpe Valley, there are several marked hiking trails and bridle paths . The adjoining Dorner Weg is named after the village. There is a riding stable in the village itself.

In 1597, Dorn and the nearby chapels were first mentioned in a document. The Elberfeld line of the Bergische Landwehr , which consisted of ramparts and thorns, ran near Dorn . It ran along the Bendahler Bach to Hof Dorn (Gedörn), where the moat can still be seen piece by piece and has been placed under protection as a ground monument . There the Landwehr turned to the east and ran via Lichtscheid , Erbschlö , the Marscheider Forest , north of Herbringhausen , via Sondern to Beyenburg . In 1710 a house was counted in the village.

On the Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies from 1715, the farm is listed as a thorn . On the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 a place is recorded as Dorn , on the Prussian first survey of 1843 as am Dorn .

In 1832, Dorn belonged to the Holthauser Rotte in the rural outskirts of the city of Ronsdorf . The place, which was categorized as individual houses according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had three residential buildings and one agricultural building at the time. At that time, 31 residents lived in the place, nine Catholic and 22 Protestant faith. In the municipality lexicon for the province of Rhineland from 1888 a house with 15 inhabitants is given.

The connecting road ran through Dorn from Elberfeld via Sandhof , Freudenberg , Dorn and Monschau to Ronsdorf , today's Dorner Weg . It was expanded in the 1740s as part of the Werden - Elberfeld - Ronsdorf - Lüttringhausen - Lennep road connection.
