history

The name "West" is derived from "Wist", which means something like apartment or place to stay. The west court with two places to live is documented for the first time in 1471. In the late Middle Ages and early modern times , the place belonged to the Erbschloe honor in the Lüttringhausen parish of the Beyenburg office .

While a grim reaper named "Arndt auf dem Westen" was mentioned around 1600 , a small "center of the iron industry" was established here in the 17th century. Scythe smiths and hammer mill owners lived there, the latter having their businesses mainly in the surrounding valleys. In 1910 the Hofschaft had 258 inhabitants in 60 households, which were spread over 38 houses.

Already in 1897 there was a water pipe there , to which almost all households were connected. However, the water came up the mountain from Heusiepen . In the direction of Wiebelshammer there was a hydraulic ram , also known as a "ram", which was used to pump the water up.

Commerce and sport

While there were a few restaurants there in the past, the West is now almost a residential area. An engraver and a chemical laboratory stand out in the commercial sector. The West Tennis Club is at home here in the tennis facility .
