The Dow Jones Global Titans 50 is a stock exchange index published by Dow Jones on the New York Stock Exchange and comprises the 50 largest listed companies in the world . The components are selected based on market capitalization , sales and net profit of the stock corporations listed in the Dow Jones World Index .

The Dow Jones Global Titans 50 Index was first calculated in 1999 and is intended to provide clues for global economic development, especially in times of globalization . For this purpose, the largest and best-known standard values that are active in at least one other area beyond their core business are summarized.

All stock corporations listed in the Dow Jones World Index are taken into account in the selection . The selection list includes the 50 current Global Titans index stocks and the 50 largest companies by market capitalization that are not part of the index. The final ranking results from the weighting of market capitalization with 60 percent, sales with 20 percent and net profit with 20 percent.

On May 23, 2012, 50 companies from ten different countries were represented: 30 from the United States , six from Great Britain , three from Switzerland , Germany and France , two from Australia and Japan and one each from China , Russia and South Korea . The market capitalization of the Dow Jones Global Titans 50 was $ 6.58 trillion.

Other Global Titans indices are the Dow Jones Sector Titans , an index that is broken down into different sectors, and the Dow Jones Country Titans , an index that is broken down into different countries.
