At the EHF Challenge Cup 2001/02 41 took Handball part -Vereinsmannschaften, who had qualified in the previous season in their home countries for the competition. It was the 2nd edition of the Challenge Cup. The defending champion was RK Jugović Kać. The cup games began on October 6, 2001, the second final took place on April 28, 2002. In the final, Skjern Håndbold was able to prevail against Pelister Bitola .
The competition started with 9 games in round 2. The winners moved into round 3, in which other, higher-rated teams entered. All rounds including the final were carried out in a knockout system with a return leg. The winner of the final was EHF Challenge Cup winner of the 2001/02 season.

The first leg took place on April 21, 2002 in Bitola and the second leg on April 28, 2002 in Herning. Skjern Håndbold is the first team from Denmark to win a European handball cup.
