EHF Challenge Cup 2005/06

At the EHF Challenge Cup 2005/06 40 took Handball part -Vereinsmannschaften, who had qualified in the previous season in their home countries for the competition. It was the 6th edition of the Challenge Cup. The defending champion was the Swiss team Wacker Thun . The cup games began on September 30, 2005, the second final took place on April 29, 2006. In the final, the Romanian team Steaua Bucharest prevailed against the Portuguese representative Sporting Club Horta.

mode

The competition started in round 2 with a group phase with a group of 4 teams in which everyone played against everyone in a simple round . The first two of the group moved into round 3, in which other, higher-ranking teams entered. From this round, including the final, the game was played in a knockout system with a return leg.

All group matches took place from September 30, 2005 to October 2, 2005. Group A played in Dudelange , Luxembourg , Group B in Nittedal , Norway , Group C in Krasnodar , Russia , and Group D in Niš, Serbia .

The first leg took place on April 22, 2006 in Horta and the second leg on April 29, 2006 in Bucharest . The last successes of the Romanians from Steaua Bucharest date back to the time before the fall of the Iron Curtain , the last European Cup victory in 1977 and the last participation in the finals in 1989 .
