history

A toll bridge was built from the prosperous city of Peoria to the opposite bank in 1848. The small settlement of Coleville was born.

In 1864, the settlement Bluetown was founded near Coleville on previously drained marshland. The settlers came from Alsace and Lorraine . In 1869 the place was renamed Hilton.

In 1884 both settlements were combined and, as a Hilton, raised to an independent municipality with the status of " Village ". In 1889 the name was changed to East Peoria. In 1919 the status " City " was granted .
