Railway Act of March 20, 1918

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Danish Railway Act of March 20, 1918 , Act No. 185 on various private railway constructions ( Danish Jernbaneloven af 20. marts 1918 - Lov nr. 185 om forskellige privatbaneanlæg ) was one of the three major Danish railway laws of 1894, 1908 and 1918, which allowed Bau and operation of most of the Danish private railways . Furthermore, a law was passed in 1924 , which affected the railway lines in the part of Sønderjyllands - Nordschleswig - which belonged to Germany until the referendum in Schleswig in 1920 .

Provisions

For the construction of private railways, the lines specified in the law could be reserved for construction and operation until April 1, 1925. The same deadline applied to the projects still outstanding from the Railway Act of May 27, 1908 . The state would assume half and in individual cases up to two thirds of the respective construction costs for the routes.

Only nine of the 42 projects listed in the law were completed. In the 1920s, cars began to compete with the railways, both in passenger and freight transport. A railroad commission set up on May 12, 1923 to evaluate the projects stated in its 1925 report that most of them should be abandoned in view of the dire economic situation.
