Railway Act of May 8, 1894
The Danish Railways Act of May 8, 1894 , Act No. 88 on the Construction and Operation of Private Railways ( Danish Jernbaneloven af May 8, 1894 - Lov nr. 88 om anlæg og drift af private jernbaner ) was one of the three major railway laws in Denmark from 1894, 1908 and 1918, which approved the construction and operation of most of the Danish private railways . The law of 1908 also contained state railway construction measures. Furthermore, with the Railway Act of March 29, 1924, a law was passed that affected the railway lines in the part of Sønderjyllands - Nordschleswig - which belonged to Germany until the referendum in Schleswig in 1920 .
Building conditions
Until April 1, 1904, the routes described in the law could be reserved for those interested in the construction and operation. The state promised to cover half of the construction costs. The ownership rights were valid until January 1, 1990, but the state was able to take over the routes for compensation after 25 years in state ownership.
It was a special feature of this law that the rights holders could choose whether they wanted to build the lines in standard gauge or in narrow gauge up to 1000 mm. This rule was used by De Bornholmske Jernbaner , Horsens – Bryrup Jernbaner and Kolding – Egtved Jernbaner .
24 of the 29 projects were completed within the statutory deadline, but the Varde – Nørre Nebel line has no branch line. Three projects were transferred to the Railway Act of May 27, 1908 and later implemented. Only two projects, Næstved – Karrebæksminde and Hurup – Agger and the Billum – Esbjerg branch line, were never completed.
