Ice hockey isjust as popular in Switzerland as soccer . The number of spectators is comparable to that of football matches, and ice hockey is also given a lot of space in the media.
Professional leagues are the National League and the Swiss League , as well as the amateur leagues MySports League up to the 4th league. The championships are organized by the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation .
The Swiss national ice hockey team for men is in 7th place in the current IIHF world rankings and that of women in 3rd place.

The history of the Swiss in the NHL goes back to 1987, when Ken Baumgartner was the first player with Swiss nationality to play a game in the highest North American professional league. Although a future Swiss man, Mike Kaszycki, had already stood on the ice before , Kaszycki only received Swiss citizenship after his NHL appearances. David Aebischer finally won the North American Championship, the Stanley Cup, in 2001 as the first Swiss player .
Others
With ESG Weil am Rhein, a German team also took part in Swiss gaming. In the 2006/07 season, the German team played in the 4th league group Central Switzerland. In addition, the only Liechtenstein ice hockey club, the EHC Vaduz-Schellenberg, played in the 4th league group Eastern Switzerland until 2006.
