List of Swiss players in the NHL
The list of Swiss players in the NHL includes all ice hockey players with Swiss nationality who have played at least one game in the regular season of the North American National Hockey League , which is considered the best professional league in the world.
The history of the Swiss in the NHL goes back to 1987, when Ken Baumgartner was the first player with Swiss nationality to play a game in the highest North American professional league. Although a future Swiss man, Mike Kaszycki, had already been on the ice before , Kaszycki only received Swiss citizenship after his NHL appearances. In 2001 David Aebischer became the first Swiss player to win the North American Championship, the Stanley Cup .
The following list shows all Swiss NHL players, even if Swiss citizenship was only accepted later, for example alongside Canadian citizenship.
Players highlighted in green are in the roster of an NHL franchise for the current season .

Stanley Cup winner
As early as 1993 , Paul DiPietro from the Montréal Canadiens, a future Swiss, won the Stanley Cup . The first to have Swiss citizenship at the time was David Aebischer with the Colorado Avalanche in the 2000/01 season . The second Swiss player to win the world's most important ice hockey trophy was Martin Gerber with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006 . In 2003 and 2007 the goalkeeper also reached the Stanley Cup final twice with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Ottawa Senators , without making it successful. Mark Streit won the Stanley Cup in 2017 with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
NHL All-Star Games
The first Swiss player to take part in an NHL All-Star Game was Zarley Zalapski in 1993 . However, the center only had Canadian citizenship at that time.
Mark Streit was 2009 after all the first born in Switzerland player who participated in an All-Star Game. In 2011 , Jonas Hiller became the first Swiss goalkeeper to take part in an All-Star Game. Roman Josi was the third Swiss-born player to take part in the All-Star Game in 2016 , his second participation took place in 2019 .
Awards
So far no Swiss player has managed to win an NHL award , an award from the National Hockey League for special achievements in the past season. However, Zarley Zalapski , who at the time did not yet have Swiss citizenship, was voted one of the best newcomers to the NHL All-Rookie Team in 1989 by journalists .
Listed by draft position
The NHL Entry Draft is an annual event of the NHL at which the teams of the league can acquire rights to available amateur and youth players ( to draft = convene, move in). In each round of the draft, each team has a so-called draft pick , which means that you can secure the rights to one player per round. All 18 to 20-year-old North American amateur and youth players are eligible, there is no age limit for Europeans. (Status 2011)
Explanation: The fact that a player was drawn in an earlier round but in a later position is due to the fact that the number of selecting teams has increased over the years.
Drafted players without NHL use
As early as 1976 , Jacques Soguel, the first Swiss to be selected in an NHL draft, was never used in the highest North American professional league. Other players with Swiss nationality who have been drafted but never or not yet played in the NHL are shown in the following list:
