Listed by draft position
The NHL Entry Draft ( called NHL Amateur Draft until 1978 ) is an annual NHL event at which the teams of the league can acquire ( to draft ) rights to available amateur and youth players . In each round of the draft, each team has a so-called draft pick , which means that you can secure the rights to one player per round. All 18 to 20-year-old North American amateur and youth players are eligible, there is no age limit for Europeans.
Explanation: The fact that a player was drawn in an earlier round but in a later position is due to the fact that the number of selecting teams has increased over the years.

Records
The first native Austrian to step on NHL ice was goalkeeper Reinhard Divis , who replaced Fred Brathwaite in a game against the Colorado Avalanche for his St. Louis Blues team on July 4, 2002 and all four were up in 25 minutes and six seconds Tor could hold shots fired. The team nevertheless lost the match 2: 4. Divis made 28 appearances in a total of four seasons, but ultimately could not prevail in the NHL.
The first outfield player and at the same time the first native Austrian NHL scorer was Christoph Brandner with the Minnesota Wild , who played his first game away against the Chicago Blackhawks on October 8, 2003 and the first of a total of four goals on October 12 at a home game against the San Jose Sharks scored.
There are currently two Austrian players active in the NHL. With Thomas Vanek , the most successful player to date has ended his career. Vanek also scored the first playoff goal by an Austrian: On April 28, 2006, he scored 1-0 away against the Philadelphia Flyers in a power play .
Awards
Thomas Vanek is the only Austrian player to win one of the NHL Awards so far . In the 2006/07 season he won the NHL Plus / Minus Award with a final score of +47 and was five points ahead of second-placed Daniel Alfredsson with a balance of +42. In the same year Thomas Vanek was also elected to the NHL Second All-Star Team . Michael Grabner was nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2011 and at the end of the season was the only Austrian to date to be elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team .
NHL All-Star Games
Vanek was also the first Austrian to take part in an All-Star Game: in the 57th National Hockey League All-Star Game , he played for the Eastern Conference team , but was unable to enter the scorer list. Michael Grabner was nominated as a rookie for the SuperSkills Competition in 2011 as part of the All-Star Weekend.
