60th National Hockey League All-Star Game

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 60th National Hockey League All-Star Game took place on January 25, 2015 at the Columbus Blue Jackets Nationwide Arena in Columbus , Ohio . The game was postponed two years in a row, in 2013 because of the lockout and in 2014 because of the Winter Olympics in Sochi . It was also the first time that Columbus played an NHL All-Star Game.

The Team Foligno lost the team Toews with 12:17, with a new record for the most goals in an All-Star Game was set up.

The first six participating players in the All-Star Game were chosen by fans. With Patrick Kane , Jonathan Toews , Duncan Keith , Brent Seabrook and Corey Crawford , five players from the Chicago Blackhawks were selected. Most of the votes, however, received Zemgus Girgensons , the attacker of the Buffalo Sabers . The Latvian owes this fact to an extensive campaign in his home country. He received 79% of his votes from Latvia.

On January 9, 2015, the NHL announced the coaches in charge. Peter Laviolette , the head coach of the Nashville Predators , reached 72.5% of all possible points with his team in the previous games of the NHL season 2014/15 and led a team. His opposite number was Darryl Sutter , who won the Stanley Cup with the Los Angeles Kings last season .

The other 36 players for the All-Star Game were determined by the National Hockey League and announced on January 10, 2015 together with six rookies who took part in the Skills Competition on January 24, 2015 . Each NHL franchise was represented by at least one player, but due to some rejections, the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche did not provide a player. A few days later, Nick Foligno of the hosting Blue Jackets and Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks were designated as team captains , so that the pairing of the All-Star Game Team Foligno was against Team Toews . For Foligno Patrick Kane and Drew Doughty were appointed as assistant captains; Ryan Getzlaf and Rick Nash took on the same role for Jonathan Toews. At the so-called “NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft” on January 23, 2015, the two captains and assistant captains put together the teams from the remaining eligible players.

Skills Competition

The Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition , which also included the four rookies who were not in the squad for the game, took place on January 24, 2015. Both teams competed against each other in several small competitions; Team Foligno won with 25:19. Among other things, Shea Weber fired the hardest shot (approx. 175 km / h), Jonathan Drouin was the fastest runner and Patrick Kane had the most precise shot .

Rookies

The rookies traditionally only took part in the Skills Competition, but Aaron Ekblad, Filip Forsberg and Johnny Gaudreau were nominated for the All-Star Game due to injuries.
