Ekibastus ( Kazakh Екібастұз ; Russian Экибастуз ) is a city in the northeast of the Republic of Kazakhstan .
Naming
The following legend explains how the city got its name:
A shepherd made his night camp in the steppe and put two dark stones together to light the fireplace in between. Little did he know that it was two pieces of coal that were starting to glow. In the morning he then marked the place where he found these miracle stones with two head-shaped salt stones. At this point Ekibastus was created. Therefore Ekibastus means : eki = "two", bas = "head", tus = "salt".
