Elizabeth Sonia "Liz" Gleadle (born December 5, 1988 in Vancouver ) is a Canadian javelin thrower .
Athletic career
Elizabeth Gleadle gained her first international experience in 2005 at the World Youth Championships in Marrakech , where she finished fifth with a width of 50.53 m in the final. The following year, she also reached the final at the Junior World Championships in Beijing , where she was twelfth with 48.08 m. In 2008 she won the U23 NACAC Championships in Toluca de Lerdo with 51.76 m and the following year she classified sixth at the Summer Universiade in Belgrade with a throw of 58.21 m. In 2010 she defended her title at the U23 NACAC Championships in Miramar with 53.72 m and in 2011 she was eighth at the World Student Games in Shenzhen with 52.07 m. In 2012 Gleadle qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games in London and reached eleventh place there with 58.78 m in the final . The following year she was unable to take part in competitions due to an injury.
In 2014 she took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for the first time , where she came fifth with 60.69 m and then came third at the 2014 Athletics Continental Cup in Marrakech with 61.38 m. In the following year, she won her first participation in the Pan American Games in Toronto with 62.83 m and qualified for the World Championships in Beijing, where she came in eleventh place with 59.82 m in the final . In 2016 Gleadle again took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but this time dropped out with 60.28 m in the qualification . The following year she reached the final at the World Championships in London , where she finished twelfth with 60.12 m. In 2018 she again took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where she finished fourth with a width of 59.85 m. The following year she won the silver medal behind the American Kara Winger at the Pan American Games in Lima with 63.30 m . She also took part in the World Championships in Doha , but did not reach the final with 60.17 m .
In 2008 and 2009, 2012 and from 2014 to 2019, Gleadle was the Canadian Javelin Throwing Champion. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Sports Science .
