Elina Aljaksandrauna Swerawa ( belarusian Эліна Аляксандраўна Зьверава , engl. Transcription Elina Zverava, Russian Эллина Александровна Зверева , Ellina Aleksandrovna Zvereva / Ellina Zvereva ; * 16th November 1960 in Dolgoprudny ) is a white Russian discus .

Swerawa has competed in discus since 1979. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 , she finished 5th. At the 1992 games in Barcelona she was banned for steroid doping, but then won the 1995 World Championships in Gothenburg after her return in 1993 . The bronze medal followed at the 1996 Games in Atlanta . The following year Swerawa reached 2nd place at the 1997 World Championships in Athens . She won the gold medal in her discipline at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . At the time, at 39, she was the oldest female track and field gold medalist in history.

After this triumph, she again took second place at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton , but was declared world champion four years later because Natalia Sadova , who had previously been in first place, had too high caffeine levels in the competition .
