Baron Emanuel von Bretfeld zu Kronenburg (also: Emanuel von Bretfeld zu Cronenburg ) (born February 3, 1774 in Prague , † June 7, 1840 in Graefenberg ) was a Bohemian officer.

Life

family

Emanuel von Bretfeld zu Kronenburg came from a noble family from Krumau in South Bohemia . His father was Joseph von Bretfeld and his mother, his second wife, was Maria Anna Chlumczansky von Przestawik and Chlumczan (* unknown; † 1819). His siblings were:

  • Baron Anton Peter von Bretfeld zu Kronenburg (* April 28, 1767; † unknown)
  • Baron Franz Joseph von Bretfeld-Chlumczansky ;
  • Antonia Theresia von Bretfeld zu Kronenburg (* June 27, 1779; † unknown).

Emanuel von Bretfeld zu Kronenburg was married to Countess Maria Caroline Christine Wilhelmina (born January 16, 1785 in Karlsbad ; † February 22, 1842 in Vienna ), a daughter of Count Ferdinand Anton von Ahlefeldt and his wife Princess Maria , since May 1, 1810 Theresia born Thurn and Taxis (1755–1823). They had four children together:

  • Freiin Maria Theresia von Bretfeld zu Kronenburg (* April 8, 1811; † unknown);
  • Baron Karoline Eleonore von Bretfeld zu Kronenburg (born August 5, 1813 in Prague, † August 20, 1857 in Šentjur pri Celju ); married to August Ferdinand Karl Cloßmann (born January 16, 1809 in Munich, † September 18, 1865 in Graz );
  • Baron Karl Egon von Bretfeld zu Kronenburg (* 7 August 1819; † unknown);
  • Emanuel Gabriel von Bretfeld zu Kronenburg (* March 25, 1821 - † August 16, 1875).

Career

Emanuel von Bretfeld zu Kronenburg joined the hussar regiment of Count Dagobert Sigmund von Wurmser as a cadet in 1789 . In the same year he took part in the siege of Belgrade under Field Marshal Gideon Ernst von Laudon when the imperial groups were fighting against the Turks in the Russian-Austrian Turkish War. In 1790 he was promoted to lieutenant . After the end of the Turkish campaign, the regiment was returned to Silesia and remained there until it was ordered to France in mid-1792 at the beginning of the First Coalition War . In 1806 he was promoted to Rittmeister .

In 1809, he was transferred to the Hussar Regiment (later: Kuk Hussar Regiment "Count Nádasdy" No. 9 ) of Count Johann Maria Philipp Frimont von Palota as major . There he received the order to raid the Gradiska fortress and to besiege Palmanuova with a battalion of Trieste, a battalion of Gränzer and a division of Frimont Hussars . He was seriously wounded in the fighting in Maria Lunga. After his recovery, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . After the Treaty of Schönbrunn in 1809, his regiment was transferred to the stationing quarters in Croatia and Hungary ; they stayed there until 1813. In 1813 Breitfeld zu Kronenburg was significantly involved in the fighting in Bassano del Grappa , Caldiero , St. Michael and Mozambano .

In 1814 he was appointed Colonel and Commander of the Hussar Regiment of Joseph of Austria (from 1893 Kuk Hussar Regiment "Friedrich Leopold of Prussia" No. 2 ). The regiment was in Trier and stayed there until 1815. After Napoleon Bonaparte , coming from Elba , landed in Cannes on March 1st, 1815 , Bretfeld was ordered to Kronenburg to protect the imperial court camp. He marched with the court camp from Mannheim to Paris . After the Second Peace of Paris, he moved to his garrison station in Nagy Enged in Transylvania .

In 1819 he was transferred from the "Archduke Joseph Hussars" to the Kuk Dragoon Regiment "Emperor Franz I." No. 1 stationed in Brandeis in Bohemia .

In 1827 he was promoted to major general and brigadier and in 1830 to field marshal lieutenant and division general .

Awards

Emanuel von Bretfeld zu Kronenburg was awarded the Leopold Order in 1827 .
