Emina Bektas (born March 30, 1993 ) is an American tennis player .

Career

Bektas mainly plays tournaments at the ITF Women's Circuit , where she has so far won three tournaments in singles and 15 in doubles.

As a college player, Bektas played for the University of Michigan team . In 2011 she was in the final of the women's singles at the ITA National Summer Championships against Mallory Burdette , which she lost 4-6 and 6-7. In 2012 , 2013 and 2014 she participated in the NCAA Division I Tennis Championships .

In 2016 she and her partner Evan King received a wildcard for the mixed competition at the US Open . They lost their first round match against Tímea Babos and Eric Butorac 6: 7, 5 and 1: 6.

In 2017, Bektas and her partner Alexa Guarachi reached the semi-finals at the Odlum Brown Vanopen in Vancouver . At the US Open , she started with her partner Amanda Anisimova with a wildcard in women's doubles , where they lost their first round match against Shūko Aoyama and Yang Zhaoxuan with 4: 6 and 1: 6. In September she won the $ 80,000 Coleman Vision Tennis Championships in Albuquerque , where she beat compatriot Maria Sanchez 6: 4 and 6: 2 in the final.

Personal

Bektas was born in Germany to a Bosnian family. She grew up in Indianapolis and attended John Newcombe's Academy in New Braunfels, Texas. She turned professional after her college career at the University of Michigan.

Awards

As a college player, Bektas was named "Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Year" twice in 2014 and 2015.
