Eren Hot , also Erenhot , Erlian or Ereen ( Chinese 二连浩特 市 , Pinyin Èrlián Hàotè Shì , Mongolian :ᠡᠷᠢᠶᠡᠡ
ᠬᠣᠲᠠ Eriyen qota , in Cyrillic Эрээн or Эрээн хот), is an independent city of the Xilin Gol Federation in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region ofthe People's Republic of China . It is located in the Gobi desert.
The administrative area of the city has an area of 4015.09 km² and had 47,025 inhabitants in 2000 according to the census. It lies at an altitude of 966 m on the border with Mongolia .
Administrative structure
At the community level, Eren Hot consists of three street districts and a sum . These are:
- Street district Ulan ( 乌兰 街道 );
- Road quarter Xilin ( 锡林街道 );
- Dongcheng Street ( 东城 街道 );
- Sum Gerel Od ( 格 日 勒 敖 都 苏木 ).

Eren Hot is the border stop of the Trans-Mongolian Railway between Mongolia and China, and the trains are switched to the other gauge there.
There is also a border crossing for motor vehicles just north of the city. Eren Hot marks the northern end of China's National Road 208 from Changzhi . On the Mongolian side, Zamin-Uud forms the southern end of the most important north-south road connection in Mongolia, through the capital Ulan Bator to the Russian border at Süchbaatar .
dinosaur
The immediate vicinity of the city, especially the "Iren-Dabasu-Formation" known among paleontologists and the Iren nor salt lake ( Mongolian : Ereen = colorful, davs = salt, nuur = lake) in the east, is known for the discovery of numerous dinosaurs . In 1921 the American "dinosaur hunter" Roy Chapman Andrews discovered the first dinosaur remains in Asia north of the Himalayas near the city . The city now houses a dinosaur museum. There are also many dinosaur models in the city park and next to the road from the city to the south.
