European elections in Malta 2014
The 2014 European elections in Malta took place on May 24, 2014 as part of the 2014 EU- wide European elections . Malta has had six of the 751 seats in the European Parliament since the Treaty of Lisbon . Local elections were held parallel to the European elections.
Suffrage
The choice was made according to the preference voting system . The parties present lists of candidates, the voters cast their votes for certain candidates, whereby they can indicate a first and a second preference. The whole of Malta was considered a single constituency .
Starting position
Result 2009
The turnout was 78.8%, the highest turnout in the 2009 European elections in a country without compulsory voting. The election winner was the social democratic PL with 54.8% of the first preference votes cast and three seats, the conservative PN came with 40.5% and two seats. After the Treaty of Lisbon came into force, another MP came up for the PL. The strongest among the small parties was the green AD with 2.4%, the right-wing extremist IE achieved 1.4%.

Results
The distribution of the first preferences was similar to 2009. The PL was able to attract the absolute majority of the first preferences, the PN accounted for 40.0%. When counting the other preferences, the PN was able to secure a third seat, with the PN candidate Cachia receiving 206 votes more than the PL candidate Camilleri Clint.
