Special stages in 2012

The 2012 FEI Nations Cup in Eventing (2012 FEI Nations Cup ™ Eventing) was the first season of Nations Cup eventing . This was the first time that the Nations Cup competitions were combined in versatility.

Course of the tournament series

All tests took place in Europe, the special tests were advertised as CICO 3 * or CCIO 3 *. In 2012, the series extended from March 22nd to October 14th and thus comprised the entire green season (period in which riding tournaments can be held outside of halls due to weather conditions).

The winning team received eleven points in each of the valuation jumps, the following teams a decreasing number of valuation points.

In the first stages, teams with fewer than three starters, who contested all of the partial tests to the end, were eliminated. These did not receive any rating points. This was changed in the course of the season, the teams receive 1000 minus points in the test for each participant who does not finish the test. This means that all teams have a result and receive points for the Nations Cup.

The exams

1st test: France

The French national eventing tournament has been held in Fontainebleau since 2009 . In 2012 the tournament was held from March 22nd to 25th, 2012.

The ranking of the Concours International de Complet Officiel de Fontainebleau was dominated by one rider: Michael Jung . Jung placed one to three in dressage with three horses. He only had to give up this triple lead in the final jumping, in the end he achieved places one, two and four in the individual ranking.

Just like Jung in the individual standings, the German team also stayed in first place in all sub-disciplines. The traditionally very strong teams Great Britain and Australia only competed with three riders each. However, since Rodney Powell and Wendy Schaeffer did not complete the exam, these teams burst. Four out of six teams finished the test with a score.

2nd test: United Kingdom

The British stage of the Nations Cup 2012, the Houghton International Horse Trials , took place from May 24th to 27th, 2012. The venue was Houghton Hall in the county of Norfolk . The victory went to the traditionally very strong British team by a clear margin.

3rd test: Poland

The Strzegom Horse Trials , which has held a World Cup test for eventing riders for years , is also holding a Nations Cup test in 2012. This took place together as a Nations Cup and World Cup competition from May 31 to June 3, 2012.

The victory went to the German team, which even without the winner of the last three years in Strzegom, Michael Jung , was over 30 points ahead of the second-placed team. The individual victory also went to Germany, to Sandra Auffarth with her horse Opgun Louvo .

The German Nations Cup tournaments in five disciplines, including versatility, take place in Aachen. Versatility tests have been held in Aachen's Soers since 2005: In September 2005, the test test for the 2006 World Equestrian Games was held, which was held here twelve months later. The German Nations Cup in eventing has been an integral part of the CHIO Aachen since 2007 .

The second tournament week of the CHIO, in which the Nations Cup is held, will take place from July 3rd to 8th in 2012.

The dressage and show jumping competitions for eventing riders both took place on Friday, July 6th, 2012. After both partial tests the home team was in the lead, in the individual classification the British rider Laura Collett and her 13-year-old gelding Rayef were in the lead. In the cross-country test, the German team had to score 20 minus points from a run-by of Ingrid Klimke's horse Abraxxas . But since the second placed British team had to accept 11.60 minus points from their team rider Emily Baldwin, the German team won for the third time in this Nations Cup season.

5th test: Italy

The Italian Nations Cup for eventing riders took place in Montelibretti in 2012 . The tournament was advertised as CIC 3 * in previous years. Most recently, a Nations Cup was held in Montelibretti in 2008, the Alpine Cup of the Alpine States .

The tournament took place from September 21 to 23, 2012. The proportion of starters who finished the test was very low in this test, 11 out of 30 participants finished the test. 12 participants dropped out in the field, four more gave up on the cross-country course. In the team classification only one team finished the test completely, in the individual classification Stefano Brecciaroli clearly dominated with Apollo van de Wendi Kurt Hoeve .

6th test: Netherlands

The tournament series concluded with Military Boekelo , the Netherlands' Nations Cup. For years now, at the end of the green season , a national ranking has been held here as part of the CCI 3 *. In 2012, the tournament is also officially announced as a CCIO 3 * national prize tournament. The tournament was held from October 10-14, 2012.

The German team also won the team championship in Boekelo - for the fifth time in a row. In the individual evaluation, in which well over 100 starters were at the start, individual Olympic champion Michael Jung dominated again over other parts of the test. With his eight-year-old young horse Halunke FBW , he was in the lead from dressage to the start of the jumping competition. However, in jumping he had to record eight minus points and thus lost the victory to Andrew Nicholson, who was also at the start with a young horse that was only nine years old.
