The Deggendorf University of Technology (THD) is a university of applied sciences in Deggendorf in Lower Bavaria with around 7,000 students (as of winter semester 2019/20). In addition to the campus in Deggendorf, the university has an English-speaking campus in Pfarrkirchen and eleven research campuses in Eastern Bavaria . The Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences focuses on the areas of business , technology , digitization and health .

history

Deggendorf Technical University campus

The THD was founded in 1994 as the Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences . In 1998 the new university campus on the Danube was moved into. After being awarded the title of Technical University by the Bavarian Cabinet, Deggendorf University was renamed today's Deggendorf University of Technology , or THD for short , on October 1, 2013 . The English name is Deggendorf Institute of Technology ( DIT ). It still has the status of a technical college.

Building of the extension

In 2014, the largest part of the extension in Deggendorf was opened with a total of more than 5700 square meters of new usable space.

In 2015 the Deggendorf University of Technology opened the European Campus Rottal-Inn (ECRI) in Pfarrkirchen. It is the first entirely English-speaking university location in Bavaria.

European Campus Rottal-Inn (ECRI)

The European Campus Rottal-Inn (ECRI) in Pfarrkirchen belongs to the THD as an independent faculty. This was opened in October 2015. At the ECRI, “sustainable management in rural regions”, interculturality and internationality are examined. Research and teaching at ECRI focus on the areas of international tourism management, health and medical tourism, industrial engineering, education for sustainable development, digital health and “healthy and sustainable buildings”.

Deggendorf University of Technology

The Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences actively promotes internationality through the structure of the university programs and a global network of educational institutions, business and research partners. The university currently has partnerships with over 200 universities and colleges worldwide. The proportion of international students at THD is 20 percent, making the university one of the most international universities in Bavaria.

Technology campus

In 2009 the Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences opened the first technology transfer centers and thus assumed a pioneering role. In the transfer centers, called Technology Campus, the focus is on the symbiosis of scientific research and its economic application. The close cooperation dynamizes the regional economy and sets new technological accents far away from urban areas. Deggendorf University now operates eleven technology campuses with different focuses:

At the Deggendorf University of Technology, graduates can do their doctorates in cooperation with national and international universities. Doctoral candidates who do their doctoral thesis in cooperation with a Bavarian university can become members of one of the thematic joint colleges of the Bavarian Science Forum (BayWISS). BayWISS is a cooperation platform for all applied colleges and universities in Bavaria, in which ten cross-university topic-specific colleges have been set up via the specialist forum for joint doctorates since 2017.

President

Deggendorf University is headed by a president. The office of president is usually occupied by one of the university's professors. This will then be released from the usual teaching activities for the time of his activity as President.
