Fancy is a song by the Australian rapper Iggy Azalea in collaboration with the British singer and songwriter Charli XCX . The song was released on February 17, 2014 and is Azalea's fourth single from her album The New Classic .

The song reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 , making it Azaleas and Charli XCX's first number one hit in the US . The song was also voted Billboard's 2014 summer hit . At the 2015 Grammy Awards , Fancy was nominated in the Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo or Group Performance categories.

Fancy received mixed to positive reviews. Hip Hop Wired's Chris Tomas wrote that the song "could be the hit Iggy Azalea was looking for" and went on to write "Charli XCX delivers a very powerful vocals that women will sing along in clubs and cars." Mike Wass from the Idolator stated that the song is "the duet we are all waiting for". Janice Llamoca described Fancy as “a hip-hop-slash-pop party anthem in which the singers show their self-confidence in literary terms ”. Rolling Stone's Joe Gross gave the song three out of five stars and wrote "Azalea is clever at handling the beats while Charli XCX's catchy hookline holds everyone [listener] on."

Jamie Parmenter noted that Fancy "has Missy Elliot influences" and that Azalea "is almost a parody of herself that Eminem is also known for." She also praised Charli XCX for the "pleasant interruption of the song, which fits Azalea's rebellious style". Bill Lamb from About.com also praised Charli XCX's vocals, but found the song overall "a bit too recycled". David Maurer from Laut.de wrote that “Charli XCX's catchy hook turns the number into a club banger”. According to Kevin Holtmann from Plattentests.de , the song is somewhat reminiscent of Kesha , but "invites you to an evening rhythm dance".

Commercial win

Fancy ranked number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on June 1, 2014 and stayed there for seven weeks. It is both Azaleas and Charli XCX's first number one hit in the American singles charts. Furthermore, Azalea is the first female Australian artist since Olivia Newton-John , who could climb the top of the American singles charts. The song Problem , in which Azalea was also involved, climbed to number two in the meantime, so that Azalea reached the top two spots on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has since been awarded five platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America . In the UK , Fancy reached the top five of the UK singles chart and went platinum. In Azalea's homeland, Australia , the song reached number 5 and has since been awarded three times platinum. The song also reached number 1 in New Zealand and Canada . Fancy was less successful in German-speaking countries . In Germany, the song made it to number 51 and stayed in the charts for a total of 15 weeks. Also in Austria with position 46 and in Switzerland with position 47 no higher chart positions were achieved.

Fancy was voted Billboard's 2014 Summer Hit . At the Teen Choice Awards 2014 , the song won the Choice R & B / Hip-Hop Song category and was also nominated in the Choice Summer Song and Choice Single Female Artist categories. At the MTV Video Music Awards 2014 , the associated music video was nominated in the categories Video of the Year , Best Female Video , Best Pop Video and Best Art Direction , but could not win any category.

Music video

The music video of Fancy is a tribute to the teen comedy Clueless - What else! from 1995. The video was shot on the same location as the film. The video starts with Iggy Azalea in her cloakroom, who uses a tablet to choose the perfect outfit for her lecture during school lessons, similar to the main character from Clueless Cher Horowitz. After a scene with some cheerleaders , the school yard is filmed with Charli XCX and Iggy Azalea sitting at a table and the former singing the hook . The video then shows a tennis court with the main character dancing on a lattice fence with some other characters. In turn, you see Iggy Azalea with two other characters who play the role of Azalea's best friend and boyfriend (inspired by the role of Dionne Davenport and her friend Murray from Clueless ) driving a car on a highway . The video then switches to a modern version of the party from the movie, with the two main characters arriving in their convertible. The video ends with Azalea and Charli XCX at school. As of May 2015, the video had over 557 million views on YouTube .
