Ferdinand Eichwede

Eduard Karl Ferdinand Eichwede (born June 18, 1878 in Hanover ; † May 1, 1909 there ) was a German architect and university professor . He is considered the most important representative of neo-Romanesque in Hanover.

Ferdinand Eichwede was born at the time of the still young German Empire as the son of the architect and factory owner Christian Eichwede , about whom there was "probably [a] family connection with the Royal Court Bronze Foundry Bernstorff & Eichwede ".

Ferdinand Eichwede studied from 1897 to 1901 at the Technical University of Hanover (TH) with professors Karl Mohrmann and Heinrich Köhler . Also in 1901 Eichwede joined the Hannoversche Bauhütte . In 1902 he was given the title of Dr.-Ing. awarded, in the following year he created “his first outstanding work [...], the richly decorated villa for potash entrepreneur Georg Ebeling ”.

In 1907 Eichwede took up the position of lecturer at the TH. In addition to numerous other buildings, he built a villa for his father in Ellernstrasse “around 1909” and a group of residential buildings - including his own house - in Seelhorststrasse .

Ferdinand Eichwede died in 1909 at the age of only 30. His family grave can be found in the Engesohde city cemetery , Department 9M, grave number 284.
