Friedrich Ferdinand Wilhelm August von Winning (born May 5, 1790 in Neuhaldensleben , † February 19, 1875 in Liegnitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Ferdinand was a son of Karl Otto Ehrenreich von Winning (1752-1838) and his wife Sophie Dorothea, née Hesse (1762-1823). His father was a colonel and commander of the Leib-Karabinier-Regiment as well as a knight of the order Pour le Mérite . His older brother Karl Otto Ehrenreich (1784–1849) became a Prussian major general .

Military career

Winning attended school in Magdeburg and the Berge monastery . On April 20, 1802 he joined the infantry regiment "von Arnim" of the Prussian army as a corporal . By the end of April 1805 he was promoted to ensign and took part in the battles near Jena and Lübeck during the Fourth Coalition War. Winning escaped surrender at Ratekau and fought in the skirmishes at Königsberg , Wehlau and in the defense of Danzig . At that time he came on December 31, 1806 as a second lieutenant in the 5th West Prussian Reserve Battalion. After the Peace of Tilsit , Winning was made inactive on August 4, 1807 with half pay.

On May 1, 1809, he took part in Major Schill's procession and fought near Dodendorf , Dömitz , Damgarten and Stralsund . Winning was transferred to the Aachen governorate on April 8, 1815 and transferred to the 2nd Rhenish Landwehr Infantry Regiment on June 26, 1815 with a patent from April 10, 1815 as captain and company commander . On May 31, 1816, he was aggregated to the 7th Infantry Regiment, and on October 16, 1816 he was assigned as a company commander. On March 31, 1846 he was transferred as a commander to the 12th Landwehr Brigade and on May 2, 1846 aggregated to the 14th Infantry Regiment. On March 27, 1847 he was promoted to major general and on June 14, 1850 appointed commander of the 10th Division . From June 12 to November 4, 1851 Winning was additionally charged with taking on the business as commanding general of the V Army Corps . Subsequently promoted to lieutenant general, he became commander of the 1st division in Königsberg on February 17, 1853 . Winning received on 5 April 1855 his parting with inn .

On the occasion of his 50th anniversary in service, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves. He died on February 19, 1875 in Liegnitz.

Winning married Dorothea Karin (1801–1862) in Glogau in 1823. The three daughters Charlotte Luise Wilhelmine (1824–1900), Anna Malvine (1825–1891) and Anna Auguste Leopoldine (1835–1900) emerged from the marriage.
