In the following 20 years the population increased to 4109 inhabitants, in 1970 there were 118 shops, a hospital, 22 church buildings, a public library and three parks in the city. In 1980 Floydada reached its population height with 4,193 inhabitants, since then the population of the city has been steadily declining. Rail traffic in Floydada has meanwhile been completely discontinued, but the city still fulfills the functions of a traffic junction due to the intersection of two US highways there.
