history

The current site, at that time a deep marshland, was leased by the air sports clubs in 1955 and a 500 m long grass runway was built. At the urging of the economy, the slope was paved and concreted in 1961. Today's grass runway was rebuilt next to it. Flugbetriebs GmbH Worms-Frankenthal-Ludwigshafen was founded in 1966 for commercial operations and took over the airfield in 1967.

In 1972 the airfield still had the ICAO code EDRV.

In 1990 Mikhail Gorbachev flew from Worms.

Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary landed with Marine One at Worms airfield in 1994 , to drive from there to Helmut Kohl's private bungalow in Oggersheim .

In 2005 the city of Worms acquired the shares of the other shareholders and is therefore the sole shareholder.

Incidents

While working on a tank of an aircraft, there was a major fire at the airfield on April 11, 2016 as a result of flying sparks. A hall and an apartment were destroyed in this fire.
