Fort Ellenserdamm
The Fort Ellenserdamm was a fortification to protect the naval port of Wilhelmshaven .
Location and structure
Fort Ellenserdamm is located directly south of Ellenserdammersiel . It was built as a closed bezel . The facility was designed for two platoons of infantry (~ 80 men). The system was 200 meters long and 100 meters wide. Most of the moat has been preserved.
history
Fort Ellenserdamm was built before the First World War . To the north of the facility there were still the anti-aircraft battery Ellenserdam and the battery Ellenserdamm during the First World War. In the Second World War it was reactivated for the air defense of Wilhelmshaven. The facility was inhabited until the 1970s.
