Fort Schortens

The Fort Schortens was a fortification to protect the naval port of Wilhelmshaven .

The fort was built as a closed lunette . The facility was designed for two platoons of infantry (~ 80 men). The Schort Fortens was located on the southwestern edge of Schortens .

history

Fort Schortens was built shortly before the First World War . A flak battery was located east of the facility as early as the First World War. During the Second World War , the Schortens flak battery was initially set up in the fort with 8.8 cm anti-aircraft guns . Larger 10.5-cm guns were later placed west of the fort. The fort's infantry plant was used as an ammunition bunker.
