The Fort Wehgast was a fortification to protect the naval port of Wilhelmshaven .

Fort Wehgast is located 300 meters south of Wehgast. It was built as a closed bezel . The facility was designed for two platoons of infantry (~ 80 men). The facility is 200 meters long and 120 meters wide. The facility was accessed from the north. The moat only partially exists.

history

The system was laid out before the First World War and reactivated as a naval radio station in the Second World War . During the First World War there were four batteries north of the fort: the battery Dangast-West, the battery Dangast-Ost, the battery Dangast-Schule and the battery Wehgast. All batteries were implemented as earth positions. The naval radio station was housed in the bunkers of the infantry factory. It consisted of accommodation and a kitchen. Three transmission masts were erected. Contact was maintained with the German submarines via the North Command Center in Sengwarden . In addition, there was contact to Bakel near Grafschaft and Fort Altona . The facility was blown up in the post-war period. Today the area is forested.
