action

The SED runs an education program called Education for the Socialist Personality . By refusing to graduate from high school, students should give up their Christian faith in favor of the desired political views. The 15-year-old pastor's son Peter Gottfried is hoping to be accepted into a music conservatory. As an entrance exam, he is asked seven questions. The last question concerns the main influence of his socialist upbringing. Peter realizes that he must deny his beliefs and religious beliefs. He is looking for help out of his dilemma.

While Peter's teacher Starke tries to convince him to give the answer required by the party, his father and his girlfriend Anneliese encourage him to stand up for his convictions. When the party gave Peter the chance to take part in the Berlin Youth Festival, a music competition, he accepted the party's guidelines despite all his father's protests. In Berlin, however, he realizes that he is only used as a puppet by the party for the public. He leaves the festival and flees to the west.
