Francis Xavier Kriengsak Cardinal Kovitvanit ( Thai : ฟ รัง ซิ ส เซ เวี ย ร์ เกรียงศักดิ์ โกวิท วาณิช ; born June 27, 1949 in Bang Rak , Thailand ) is Archbishop of Bangkok .

Life

Francis Xavier Kriengsak Kovitvanit attended the San Giuseppe Seminary in Sam Phran . He was then sent to Rome to continue his studies . Kovitvanit studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Pontifical Urban University from 1970 to 1976 . On July 11, 1976, he received the sacrament of ordination through the Archbishop of Bangkok , Michael Michai Kitbunchu .

Kovitvanit became parish vicar of the Nativity of Mary parish in Ban Paen in 1976 . From 1977 to 1979 he was parish vicar of Epiphany Church in Ko Lanta Yai . Francis Kovitvanit was the sub-rain of the San Giuseppe Seminary in Sam Phran from 1979 to 1981 . In 1981 he was sent to Rome to study at the Pontifical Gregorian University . From 1983 to 1989, Kovitvanit Regens was a member of the Holy Family Seminary in Nakhon Ratchasima . Francis Kovitvanit became Undersecretary of the Thai Bishops' Conference in 1989 . From 1992 to 2000 he was the rain of the Lux Mundi National Seminary in Sam Phran. Kovitvanit became pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Thap Yao in 2000 . Since 2001 he has also been an associate lecturer at the seminary in Sam Phran. In 2003 Francis Kovitvanit became pastor at the cathedral in Bangkok and secretary of the Priestly Council of the Archdiocese of Bangkok .

On March 7, 2007 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as bishop of the diocese of Nakhon Sawan . He was ordained bishop on June 2, 2007 by the Archbishop of Bangkok, Michael Michai Cardinal Kitbunchu; Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in Thailand , Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio , and the Bishop Emeritus of Nakhon Sawan, Joseph Banchong Aribarg . Francis Xavier Kriengsak Kovitvanit chose the motto Deus caritas est (“God is love”), which comes from the 1st letter of John ( 1 Jn 4 : 8b  EU ). On May 14, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. to the Archbishop of Bangkok. The inauguration took place on August 16, 2009.

In addition, Benedict XVI called him. Member of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications on January 5, 2010 .

In the solemn consistory on February 14, 2015, Kovitvanit was awarded the cardinalate by Pope Francis and he was appointed cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria Addolorata .
