Frank Meyer (politician)
Frank Meyer (born July 14, 1974 in Krefeld ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been Lord Mayor of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Krefeld since October 21, 2015 .
Life
Meyer's grandmother immigrated to Krefeld with her daughter from the Silesian city of Breslau and found a job as a secretary at the Bayer factory in Uerdingen . His paternal grandfather was a Krefeld velvet weaver from the northern district. In his childhood Frank Meyer and his parents Richard and Christa lived in Uerdingen. His father was involved in the union . In Uerdingen Frank Meyer first attended elementary school Heinrich school and made 1994 the Abitur at the Gymnasium am Stadtpark Uerdingen . This was followed by studies at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration with a degree in administrative management (FH) and work as a civil servant in the State Office for Salaries and Supply in North Rhine-Westphalia . In 2001 he began studying law at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and completed a master's degree at the NRW School of Governance at the University of Duisburg-Essen under Karl-Rudolf Korte, with a Master of Arts degree in political management and administration. He then worked as the head of the constituency office of the SPD member of the Bundestag Siegmund Ehrmann in Krefeld.

As part of the history lesson in grade 11, Meyer dealt with the Reichstag speech by SPD chairman Otto Wels in March 1933 against the National Socialist Enabling Act . He was impressed by the Social Democrats' courage and ultimately moved him to join the SPD in 1992. Since 1999 he has been a council member in Krefeld and a member of various committees. Meyer has been mayor of the city of Krefeld since 2009 . As chairman he headed the SPD Krefeld from June 2012 to November 2015. In addition to his other previous political tasks and offices, Frank Meyer was involved in the SPD local association Krefeld-Nord.
Mayor election 2015
He has been Lord Mayor of the City of Krefeld since October 21, 2015. The social democrat won the runoff election on September 27, 2015 with 63.85 percent against the CDU candidate , Peter Vermeulen. In the first ballot on September 13, 2015 he came to 45.03 percent, Vermeulen to 35.13 percent and Thorsten Hansen ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) to 14.96 percent. After the Second World War , Frank Meyer is the third SPD mayor in Krefeld. Josef Hellenbrock held the office from November 15, 1956 to April 5, 1961 and Willi Wahl from October 18, 1989 to November 3, 1994.
Hobbies
Frank Meyer has been enthusiastic about the Beatles since his youth . His passion for music motivated him to learn how to play the electric bass himself . With school friends he founded an oldies and Beatles cover band . Through the Beatles, he also developed a bond with Liverpool FC , whose games he also watches in neighboring countries . At the “Reds” he is a member of the German fan club “German Reds”. In Krefeld he is drawn to the Grotenburg . Meyer has been encouraging Bayer Uerdingen (now KFC Uerdingen ), of which he is also a member, since childhood . He is a member of the “Ostgroten” fan group. He has also been a member of the table tennis department at what is now SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen since 1985 .
