Baron Franz Christian Grimm von Grimmenstein (born April 17, 1768 in Stuttgart , † October 28, 1846 in Erfurt ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were Gottfried Christian Grimm von Grimmenstein (* 1735, † January 3, 1796) and his wife Maria Margarethe, née Steinerle. His father was a quartermaster from Württemberg and a notary in Stuttgart.

Military career

In 1788, Grimmenstein joined the infantry regiment "von Tauentzien" of the Prussian Army as a private corporal and on February 1, 1792, became an ensign . During the Kościuszko uprising , he took part in the battle near Ottashin in Poland in 1794/95. From 1795 to 1805 he served as a regimental adjutant and in the meantime advanced to second lieutenant on May 1, 1796 and to prime lieutenant on October 8, 1803 . On October 5, 1805 he came to General von Kropff as adjutant general and fought in the defense of Breslau and Schweidnitz during the Fourth Coalition War .

After the Peace of Tilsit initially put inactive, on July 2, 1808, Grimmenstein was informed that he could soon be re-accepted into the army. On February 18, 1809 he was staff captain of the army and on July 31, 1809 the 2nd Silesian Infantry Regiment (No. 11) aggregated. On August 9, 1811 he was transferred to the 1st Silesian Infantry Regiment (No. 10) . With his promotion to captain Grimmenstein became company commander in the 4th East Prussian Infantry Regiment on May 18, 1812 . During the wars of liberation he fought in the battle of Großbeeren and was wounded in the battles of Dennewitz and Laon . Grimmenstein also took part in the capture of Amsterdam and the sieges of Spandau and Wittenberg, the blockade of Soissons, the battles of Zahna, Trebbin, Westwesel, Loenhut, Merrem and Deuren. For Antwerp he received the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class and for Westwessel the Iron Cross II. Class. At that time he was transferred as a major to the 16th Infantry Regiment on January 19, 1814 and on August 19, 1815 Grimmenstein came as a commander in the 2nd Thuringian Landwehr Infantry Regiment in Erfurt .

On May 1, 1816, he was transferred to the salaried tribe of this regiment. He made a lot of friends and promoted u. a. the orphanage in Erfurt. When he was to be transferred, the district administrators of Erfurt and Weißenfels made a petition to the king to keep Grimmenstein. So on March 12, 1820, King Grimmenstein moved as commander of the III. Battalion for the 27th Landwehr Regiment. In this position, took place on March 30, 1822 was promoted to lieutenant colonel , and on March 30, 1828 patent from 8 April 1828 to Colonel . On June 15, 1830 Grimmenstein received as a major general his farewell to the statutory pension . He died on October 28, 1846 in Erfurt and was buried there on October 30, 1846.

Grimmenstein married on September 20, 1818 in Weißenseen Luise von Müller called von Rauneck (* 1796; † May 6, 1875), a daughter of the district cashier in Weißensee Gottgetreu von Müller. The couple had several children:
