Friedrich Gustav Leopold Freiherr von der Goltz (born August 17, 1830 in Königsberg , † March 8, 1900 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of Rastatt .

Friedrich was a son of the Prussian Lieutenant General Gustav von der Goltz (1801-1870) and his wife Albertine, born von der Goltz (1806-1864).

Military career

Goltz graduated from the old town high school in his hometown and joined the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a fusilier on September 30, 1847 . When he was transferred to the 1st Dragoon Regiment on September 19, 1848 , he changed arms and in mid-January 1850 was promoted to second lieutenant . From April 1859 Goltz became regimental adjutant, rose to prime lieutenant in mid-May and was adjutant of the 1st division in the summer of 1859 during the mobilization on the occasion of the Sardinian War . After the end of the mobile relationship, he was adjutant of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade . Goltz was promoted to Rittmeister on February 21, 1863 as squadron chief in the King's Hussar Regiment (1st Rheinisches) No. 7 . In this capacity he took part in the fighting at Hühnerwasser , Münchengrätz and Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria .

After the ceasefire Goltz was the first Westphalian Hussars. 8 aggregated and as an aide at the General Command of the First Army Corps commanded. family

Goltz married on June 22, 1855 with Johanna von Radecke (1833-1858) from the Redden house. After her untimely death, he married Margarethe von Blumenthal (1839-1919), daughter of the District President Robert von Blumenthal, on June 10, 1863 in Danzig . The two marriages produced ten children.
