In the "group of death" D a cruel tradition continued for the Spaniards, who were once again favored before the tournament, with the early elimination. After starting strong against Nigeria, the game tipped & tipped. a. with an own goal and Sunday Oliseh led the Nigerians to victory in a great game. In contrast, Bulgaria and Paraguay drew 0-0. With a 1-0 win over Bulgaria, the Nigerians confirmed that they were not a flash in the pan. Paraguay once again fought 0-0 and the Spanish fans had a bad feeling. Although the Spaniards put on an outstanding performance in their third group game and beat the Germany defenders 6-1 in 1994, they were eliminated after all, as Paraguay surprisingly won against the Nigerians, who were now secret favorites.
