Fury of Five is an American crossover band from Asbury Park , New Jersey that was formed in 1994.

history

The band was founded in 1994 and consisted of singer James "Ismean" "Stikman" Ramen, guitarists John Pacheco aka "Chico Violencia" and Jay "Fury" Maler, bassist Mike "Terror" Terry and drummer Chris Rage. Terry met painter in 1993/1994 through a mutual friend. In 1993 Terry played with ramen in a band called Locked Up in Life before they split up after three months. They then decided in 1994 to form Fury of Five, for which Ramen had separated from his other band Position of Power. At the time, Maler was 17 years old and worked in the band Manifest Destiny with the first Fury of Five drummer Marc Goldman. Goldman was only active in Fury of Five for three months when he decided to go to college , after which he was replaced by Chris Rage of Stampin 'Ground . The guitarist John “Anger” Klagholtz came to the cast through ramen. After about two years he was replaced by John Pacheco. The group released its first demo three months after it was founded . After the band appeared on various samplers and released two singles, their debut album No Reason to Smile was released in 1996 . Then they went on tour through the northeast of the USA together with Madball , Earth Crisis and Fear Factory . Two tours through Europe were also held together with Integrity and Pro-Pain . Fury of Five also played with Pro-Pain in Innsbruck with the support of Gurd and Pissing Razors . At Normandy Sound under the direction of Jamie Locke , the second album At War with the World was recorded, which was released in 1998. For the song, a music video was created for Do or Die , which was produced by Drew Stone . However, the album only sold moderately. After a third European tour, the band broke up in the same year. For the third album This Time It's Personal , which was released in early 2000, the band got together again. Since there was a tense relationship between Ramen and Rage, only a few bands wanted to play with Fury of Five and Rage began to suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome , the band split up again in the same year. However, it has been active again since 2010. In the same year the band played at Tsunami Fest with Chris Mushmouth on bass and Doc Coyle from God Forbid on electric guitar. In 2013, Fury of Five played at This Hard Core Fest . Guitarist Dave Devastation and drummer Johnny "Soda" Warbeatz, who Ismean met at the Tsunami Fest, as well as bassist Sean Guillotine and guitarist Derrick Haymaker were involved. After a few rehearsals, they also played at the 2014 edition of the festival. In 2015, a music video for Takin 'Respect and the single Real Is Back , which contains two old but newly recorded songs and a completely new song, was released on Fast Break! Records released. In addition, work on the album Welcome to Evolution began.

style

According to Mike DaRonco from Allmusic , the band mixes old-school- hardcore-punk with some metal and lots of breakdowns . In The Next Generation of Rock & Punk Nu Metal, Joel McIver also described the music as a mixture of hardcore punk and metal. Christian Graf wrote in Nu Metal and Crossover Lexikon that the singer Ismean has problems finding the tone, especially in melodic passages. On This Time It's Personal , people have reoriented themselves musically, but Visions magazine has described the music as “boring, dusty groove core”.

According to Joachim Hiller from Ox-Fanzine , the group plays clichéd Metal on No Reason to Smile , "which would like to add the suffix -core". The album is suitable for fans of Pantera and Merauder . In a later review of This Time It's Personal , Dominik Winter stated that it is a big step forward on its predecessor, but that it is not very memorable. The music is a mixture of old biohazard , suicidal tendencies and singing, reminiscent of Snapcase . Although it is not about ordinary hardcore punk, he still felt annoyed by the occasional " AC / DC singing" and constant " rumbling ".

In an interview with gluewebzine.blogspot.de , Mike Terry stated that the band was influenced by Thrash Metal, Metal, Hardcore Punk and Rap . In another interview from killingthelegacy.wordpress.com , Ramen named Slayer , Biohazard, and Sepultura as early influences. He mainly writes texts that deal with everyday life. In addition to Sepultura and Slayer, Ramen cited Fear Factory, Suicidal Tendencies, Merauder, Mobb Deep , DMX and The Notorious BIG as personal influences in an interview with sib27.blogspot.de .

According to Matthias Weckmann from Metal Hammer , the band combines hardcore punk rhythms with heavy riffs . At War with the World contains an obituary for Princess Diana and Mother Teresa . In an interview with Weckmann, Maler stated that the band did this because the band respect these groups because they tried to do good with their money. Weckmann had reviewed At War with the World an issue earlier and described the music as “NY-Hardcore of the fat, brute kind” and was like a mixture of biohazard and downset. The music is recommended to fans of Merauder and Madball. Two years later, Weckmann had also discussed This Time It's Personal . In contrast to the debut album, one no longer loosens the music with groove interludes, but moves "clumsy bludgeoning" into a "hardcore one-way street".
