Gaëlle Arquez (born in Saintes ) is a French opera singer with a mezzo-soprano voice .

life and work

Gaëlle Arquez graduated in musicology and studied singing at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris . Her teachers included Malcolm Walker, Kenneth Weiss, Jeff Cohen, and Susan McCulloch. In 2007 and 2008 she toured France with the title role in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges . In 2009 she took over the title role in Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen in a Conservatory production in Paris, which was then shown at the Théâtre Royal de Wallonie in Liège and at the Grand Théâtre de Reims . She has won a number of prizes and grants, including the 2009 Prix ​​de Chant du Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris .

Opera

Her repertoire focuses on the one hand on baroque music, on the other hand on the classical French repertoire - from Lully and Rameau to Berlioz , Gounod , Offenbach and Bizet to Debussy and Messiaen . In 2015 she took on the title role in Offenbach's La Belle Hélène at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris . In the same year she made her debut at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and in 2016 at the Komische Oper in Berlin. On October 16, 2016 she made her debut at the Vienna State Opera , in the title role of a new production of Gluck's Armide , sung in the original French version, staged and equipped by a French team, composed of Ivan Alexandre (director), Pierre-André Weitz (set) and Bertrand Killy (light). The Musiciens du Louvre from Grenoble played, conducted by Marc Minkowski . The audience and the press reacted enthusiastically, the performance of the singer - both acting and vocally - was praised. In summer 2017 she sang the title role in Carmen on the lake stage in Bregenz .

She has given recitals at the Teatro Marcello in Rome, the Salle Pleyel in Paris and the Louvre , at the Festival de Beaune and the Festival Messiaen in Pays de la Meine; there in 2012 at the invitation of Pierre Boulez .
