Gabrielle Rose (born 1954 in Kamloops , British Columbia ) is a Canadian actress .

Life

Gabrielle Rose was born in 1954 into a family of artists. Her grandfather L. Arthur Rose worked as a screenwriter, producer, copywriter and vaudeville artist. Her father Ian Rose was briefly a child actor before pursuing a career as a doctor. From him she was enthusiastic about the theater. At her parents' request, she began studying political science at Simon Fraser University , which she dropped out in her second year and applied to drama schools in England. From 1970 she completed her acting training at the Bristol Old Vic Theater School and began her career at the theater of the Bristol Old VicTheater Company. After over 10 years on the stages of the UK, she returned to Canada.

Rose has been in the film business since the mid-1970s. Early in her career, she was occasionally featured as Gay Rose in the credits of productions. She has repeatedly worked with director Atom Egoyan , for example on Familienbilder (1987), Dream Roles (1989), The Estimator (1991), The Sweet Beyond (1997) and True Lies (2005). In addition to her work for film and television, she continues to appear regularly in theater productions such as Elizabeth Rex , Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? or Angels in America .

In January 2016, Rose received the Ian Caddell Vancouver Film Critics Circle Award for Achievement for her significant contributions to the British Columbia film industry .

She is married to actor Hrothgar Mathews and has two sons.
