history
The local area belonged to the local community Groß-Hollenstein in the late 19th century , as did Thann . Gustav Davis , later founder of the Kronen Zeitung , bought the grounds between Opponitz and Kleinhollenstein by 1906 and, after the valley was accessible with the construction of the Ybbstalbahn in 1896, formed the Hohenstein estate , at that time a forest and hunting estate covering around 1500 hectares to which also from 1913 - but only until after the First World War - the Seeburg estate to the north also belonged.
Today Thann (with the Garnberg homestead) belongs to Opponitz, the village of Garnberg (with the castle and mountain farming school) to Hollenstein.
