history

The first documented form of place names dates from 1710 as uffn Gebürge . A school was built in 1810. Until 1856 the place was subordinate to the office of Wolkenstein , then to the court office of Marienberg and from 1875 to the newly formed office of Marienberg . For 1875 624 inhabitants are reported, from the beginning the settlement is parish to Marienberg. In 1882 the volunteer fire brigade was founded in the mountains.

In 1872, construction began on the Reitzenhain – Flöha railway line that ran through the town and went into operation on July 12, 1875 to Reitzenhain . However, mountains did not receive a railway connection until December 7, 1927 when the station of the same name opened. On October 1, 1978, passenger traffic between Marienberg and Reitzenhain was finally stopped.

After 1947, the SDAG Wismut carried out explorations for uranium ore in the Marienberg mining district . In the north of Berge the "shaft 283" was excavated, but did not get beyond the character of an exploration shaft. In 1954, uranium mining in the Marienberger Revier ended with a total production of approx. 121 tons of uranium.

In 1971 the "Arthur-Becker- Schanzenanlage " in Wagenbachtal northeast of the village was inaugurated and used until 1990 by the "SV Dynamo Marienberg". In 1993 the steel structures of the inrun towers were scrapped. After further use with a provisional ski jumping facility, the location was given up three years later.

On January 4, 2005, a major fire destroyed the premises of "Sportgeräte Langer GmbH", which has been producing in the town since 1995. The company was not rebuilt, the company has been producing in Hallbach ever since .
