Surname
The Geiselbach got its name from the Old High German word "Geisila" , which means rod . This gives rise to the explanation: creek where you cut rods . In 1496 he appeared in the female form of the Geiselbach . The brook gave the place Geiselbach its name.
geography
course
The Geiselbach arises in the village of the same name, through the confluence of several small spring streams that arise above the village of Geiselbach am Ziegelberg (380 m). After about 3 km it reaches the Teufelsgrund , which runs along the Hessian border , where the Geiselbach is partly the state border. This is where its largest tributary, the Omersbach, flows . Its water used to feed the Teufelsmühle in Teufelsgrund . In particularly dry months, when the water level of the Omersbach was too low, an artificially created ditch ensured that the water from the Geiselbach, which flows about 10 m below, operated the mill. The Omersbach is also listed under the name Falkenbach on some maps .
Today only the foundation walls of the Teufelsmühle are left. About 20 m from the ruins is a log house, which the locals also refer to as the devil's mill. In the further course the Geiselbach serves as a water supply for numerous old fish ponds . From left slope him flow from Kohlberg of the former site of the Rothenberger court springing Rothenberger Born and the stream from the Hessel Born to. On the right are the slopes of the Heidkopf and Schanzenkopf mountains belonging to Sölzertrücken . At the so-called Hessenkurve and the old ruins of Hüttelngesäß , which today belongs to Freigericht , he crosses under the 2305 state road . The Geiselbach flows into the Kahl near Niedersteinbach ( Bavaria ) .
The Geiselbach estuary lay on the Hessian-Bavarian border until 2011. Due to an exchange of space, it is now completely in Bavaria.
The Geiselbach is supplied with water by numerous small and nameless brooks as well as by some moor meadows , so that it is one of the largest tributaries of the Kahl along with the Sommerkahl , Reichenbach and Westerbach .
