Zsolt-Georg Böhm (born April 17, 1962 in Sălacea , Bihor district ) is a former German - Hungarian table tennis player and author who was born in Romania .

Time in Romania

Böhm started playing table tennis at the age of seven. He was able to win a total of 25 national titles. In 1977, 1978, 1979 he won the national youth championship, in 1978 and 1979 the men's championship in singles (where he defeated his brother Josef in the final in 1978 ), in 1977 and 1978 in doubles with his brother and five times with the club CSM Cluj.

In 1978 he was European youth champion in doubles (with Simion Crișan ) and time in mixed (with Éva Ferenczi ). In 1980 he took part in the European Championship in Bern for his country of birth . After that he did not return to Romania and instead moved to Mörfelden near Frankfurt am Main .

Time in Germany

In the 1980s he was one of the strongest players in Germany. He was German individual champion six times. Eight times he took part in European championships and six times in world championships. In 1988 he entered the Olympic Games . Between 1982 and 1993 he played 102 international matches for Germany. In his first international match, the Europa League match with the CSSR in September 1982, he won and lost one individual. In 1983, 1985 and 1987 he was DTTB Player of the Year .

Böhm made negative headlines at the 1986 European Championships in Prague when he was expelled from the team after a dispute with national coach Charles Roesch and a fine was later imposed on him by the DTTB federal court.

Today (2018) he is an educator. He still plays in the major league in the 1st team of the TVB Nassau an der Lahn.

Private

Böhm's parents were both doctors. His father's ancestors come from Swabia and emigrated to Romania in 1735. His father played table tennis in the Romanian first division. He has a brother named Josef who is two years older than him and who followed him to Germany in December 1981. In the mid-1990s, Böhm completed a degree in primary school education and sports. Since July 1993 he has been married to Susanne, who was born in Romania. He is the father of three children, two of whom play table tennis. In 2013 he published his autobiography Mein Wunder von Bern . His novel The Pontifex Message was published in 2018 ( ISBN 3946635091 ).
