Georg von Tausch

Georg Tausch , since 1817 Knight von Tausch (* 1766 in Mannheim , † November 7, 1836 in Munich ) was a Bavarian lieutenant general and head of the cadet corps .

Life

Exchange was of bourgeois origin. He joined the Palatinate-Bavarian Army on January 6, 1783 as a commoner , where he was employed in the artillery corps because of his particular interest in mathematics .

In the corps of Count Friedrich Wilhelm zu Isenburg and Büdingen , Tausch took part in battles against insurgents in Strasbourg in 1790 , and in the same year in the execution of the Reich to overthrow the so-called Liège Revolution .

Returning to Mannheim he advanced to lieutenant and on December 23, 1794 commanded the artillery in the defense of the Rheinschanze on the left bank of the Rhine against the French. He also took part in the battles for Mannheim in 1795. In 1799 he followed Elector Max IV. Joseph to Munich and set up an artillery laboratory to improve military technical knowledge. In 1800 Tausch was promoted to captain and was supposed to direct the new war artillery school. Before it came to that he moved with the Munich artillery, under Baron Karl Theodor von Hallberg-Broich to the Upper Palatinate , to the army group of Duke Wilhelm in Bavaria . Hallberg as artillery commander appointed him his adjutant, later he commanded the artillery park of the army group in Amberg . After the peace agreement with France, Tausch returned to Munich in 1801. He was now considered a recognized specialist in artillery science. In 1802 he was given the professorship of genius at the noble educational institution Pagerie , in which office he remained until 1815.

In 1805 the Bavarian Cadet Corps was revived and Tausch worked out the institute's curriculum for its commanding officer, General Reinhard von Werneck . For this he was promoted to major and henceforth supported Werneck in leading the corps. In 1808 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , in 1809 the king appointed him private teacher of mathematics and war science to his youngest son, Prince Karl of Bavaria . Tausch received the rank of colonel in 1812 and the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown in 1817 . Associated with this was the elevation to the personal nobility and he was allowed to call himself Ritter von Tausch after his entry in the nobility register .

In the same year General Werneck retired and Tausch took over as commander of the cadet corps, in 1822 he became major general , on January 22, 1823 he was raised to hereditary nobility, and in 1833 to lieutenant general. Since Greek pupils were also looked after at the cadet institute from 1826, Bausch was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Savior . He was also the bearer of the Ludwig Cross .

In 1836 Tausch suffered a stroke. Already sickly, he died of cholera in the winter of the same year . From 1787 he was married to Friederike Bissing, after whose death he married Charlotte von Lajolais in 1828. There were sons and daughters from the first marriage. The daughter Karoline (1802-1878) married Major General Joseph von Xylander (1794-1854).
